Yes (24) / No (2) Reply - Report abuse jules4485 in Northampton, United Kingdom 32 months ago hi mate these vechicles suffer with injector and fuel pump problems, i would have checked injectors first as these are cheapest and most common, easy check to test, remove leak off pipes from injectors and clamp off pipe, then place fuel leak off pipes and pots onto injectors and if more than about 40 ml of fuel returns once air is primed from system then replace injector, sounds hard but any half decent technician who knows anything about common rail will know how to do this, this deffiently sounds like injector problem, where are you based, - Was this comment helpful? Yes (8) / No Reply - Report abuse ian in Birkenhead, United Kingdom 32 months ago in wallasey on merseyside the guy who changed the pump and filter has booked me into dealer for diagnostic check this sat just trying to see if i can sort it before then to save a bit of cash i already owe him for work done thanks very much for the advice. how come the van along with its injectors run fine once the van is going??? - Was this comment helpful? Yes (3) / No (1) Reply - Report abuse jules4485 in Northampton, United Kingdom 32 months ago diesel just pours through them and put to much diesel into the cylinders and as diesel is not that flamable the fuel to air ratio is to great for it to ignite, when it gets a sniff of easy start a highly flamable source it fires it into life and the the injectors are ok, you can get the injectors tested at a diesel center, but not at a dealer as they do not have the equipment due to cost. thais sounds defiently like a injector problem. dealers can do a leak off test which will tell you what injector they think has gone (90% reliable test) but to get 100% correct they would have to be tested, i personaly would just ask the dealer to do a leak off test, we do them all the time as injectors are a problem on dailys. - Was this comment helpful? Yes (1) / No Reply - Report abuse ian in Birkenhead, United Kingdom 32 months ago thanks jules at least i understand a bit more now. this apointment i have on saturday will be the plug in diagnostic test that reads the computer and should tell them whats the problem? then fix it ? - Was this comment helpful? Yes / No (1) Reply - Report abuse jules4485 in Northampton, United Kingdom 32 months ago the computer will oly gear electrical faults your better of getting them to do a leak off test, i work for a dealer and that is what we would do - Was this comment helpful? Yes / No (1) Reply - Report abuse ian in Birkenhead, United Kingdom 32 months ago thanks jules i used my van today since saturday and did need the spray to start it but it stood for 4 hours this morning and it started first time i did about 5 miles then left it before i returned home again 4 hours and started first time but it was a warm day so i feel that the van is running almost up to scratch its just the morning when its left overnight. final arrangments have not been made for the computer all i have been told is that a slot has been reserved for me sat am so when i confirm arrangments i can ask for a leak off test how long does that take. many thanks ian b - Was this comment helpful? Whenever the engine is under load i hear a load 'Metalic' sounding tapping from the engine, whenever I release the throttle (at any speed) the noise dissappears. I know this is potentially the sign of a big end going but I am willing to hear any suggestions incase it could be a simple fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Was this comment helpful? Yes / No Reply - Report abuse Rob in United Kingdom 29 months ago I am also having a problem starting my 2004 2.3 HPI Iveco Daily van. the van was running fine until it had a front end crash which pushed the Radiator back and cracked the plastic off the timing belt cover and down into the belt area. Then when the van was rebuild it would not start, it would turn over but not fire up and this turned out to be that some of the plastic got jammed under one of the flywheels and the timing belt slipped smashing eight of the fingers on the top of the head this was repaired and I collected the van and drove it home where it was perfect. I then parked it up and drove it out of the garage the next day and parked it as it was not required then when we went to start it in the evening it will only turn over but wont start and the red injector light is flashing on the Dashboard. I have read all the comments and will try eaststart tomorrow. Thank you to all the helpful people who have posted comments. - Was this comment helpful? Yes / No (2) Reply - Report abuse Onno Benschop in Belrose, Australia 29 months ago I have a 35S13, 2002 (bought new) which has just done 100000km, mostly highway driving. At 90000 the timing belt was replaced and I started noticing that the engine no longer "purrs", it now growls and a tappet noise has become quite noticable. At 70km/h, 2000rpm, 5th gear there seemed to be a "flat spot" in the power band - the note of the engine changes, something which did not happen before the belt was changed. Before the service I had also noticed a slight increase in fuel consumption. It was tested and "nothing was wrong". At 100000km I took it to a mechanic who with the help of some faxed timing belt documentation determined that the pump was out by a 1/3 turn, that is, when the cam-shaft is at TDC (12), the fuel pump alignment is supposed to be at the bottom, in our case it was at 11 o'clock. Or, if the pump alignment was at 6, the cam-shaft is at 9, rather than 12. Continued... - Was this comment helpful? Yes (1) / No Reply - Report abuse Onno Benschop in Belrose, Australia 29 months ago After setting the timing belt the way the manual specified, I took it for a test drive and all was back to normal. The tappet noise had vanished. Three days later and it's growling again, there seems to be a new high pitched squeal at 90km/h, 2000rpm, 6th gear, and the tappet noise has now increased to higher than before the change. The growl is now most noticable in low gear coming up a hill. The mechanic is suggesting to put an additive into to kill any bugs, but my research seems to indicate that while bugs in diesel may well be an issue, I don't have any other symptoms. I'm reluctant to return to the dealer who replaced the timing belt in the first place because every time I visit, more of my vehicle gets broken - the last visit broke the clips on both head-lights, broke a globe, replaced the pollen filter back to front, did not initially replace the air filter, lost a spotlight bolt and managed to put the timing belt on incorrectly. So, not my favorite dealership :( My next closest dealership is 2700km east of me. Any suggestions, recommendations or comments? - Was this comment helpful?
